Six trends stand out at Sweets & Snacks 2017

Mushroom chips, champagne truffles and a curry cashew chocolate bar are among new products introduced at the Sweets & Snacks Expo, held May 23-25 in Chicago. Drawing more than 17,000 industry professionals, the annual event featured the latest innovations from more than 800 companies, including more than 200 first-time exhibitors.

Garbanzos set to shine

Chickpeas add a healthful boost to traditional salty snacks, including chips, puffs and crackers on display at the Sweets & Snacks Expo. In addition to the roasted and seasoned varieties from such brands as GoBitos from GLK Foods and Lebby Snacks, product
manufacturers are using chickpea flour in formulations. Examples include The Daily Crave Quinoa Chips, a range of snack chips combining quinoa with lentils, green peas and chickpeas, and Saffron Road ChickBean Crisps, made from milled chickpeas, lentil, pea and sweet potato bits.  

Mustache Munchies from Green Mustache are organic baked gluten-free crackers featuring garbanzo bean flour, kale and chia.

Hippeas Organic Chickpea Puffs from Green Park Snacks are available in five flavors, including vegan white cheddar and sriracha, and provide 3 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein per serving.
