Creating New Memories with Dad

Creating New Memories with Dad

It’s almost time to celebrate the one-of-a-kind man in your life—Dad! Father’s Day honors fatherhood and the influence fathers have on society. But how did this holiday start?

The official Father’s Day has been around for less than one hundred years. In July 1910, Sonora Smart Dodd held the very first Father’s Day celebration in Spokane, Washington. After hearing about the first Mother’s Day, she wanted fathers to have a holiday that would honor them. But Father’s Day isn’t just celebrated in the United States. Loads of other countries have a day for fathers, and they don’t stop at gift-giving! In Australia, fathers are crowned in state-wide pageants. In Germany, fathers and their sons drink beer and pull wagons across town. Russia’s “Defender of the Fatherland Day” calls for parades, while in India, picnics are the best way to celebrate.

To honor the fun and diversity of Father’s Day, we’ve rounded up a list of our favorite Father’s Day activities. Celebrate him differently, and create memories together that he'll be sure to remember!

Go for a hike. Fresh air and a walk through nature are great ways to bond with Dad. Pack a picnic lunch for the road—he’ll love some energy-packed snacks in hand!

Geocaching. This real-world adventure will get Dad in touch with his inner explorer. Use the free Geocaching app to find buried treasure in amazing places, right around the corner!

Try a New Take On a Favorite Recipe. Work together to make one of his favorite treats— but add a fun, new flavor! Like bananas, habanero sauce, or …dare I say it…a Green Mustache smoothie? ! If he’s into pancakes, check out our fluffy Orange Mango pancakes!

Movie Night. Skip the ticket line and break out the homemade nachos! Fluff up Dad’s favorite couch and let him settle into a cinematic adventure.

Calling All Dads. Gather all the fathers you know—your uncle, your best friend’s dad, even your grandfather! Get them together for a group activity and watch the fun unfold. Try a fun activity that most dads might love like bowling or fishing. Beware: there will be no end to the dad jokes.

Take a Class Together. Whether it’s a course in golfing, high-octane boxing, or the spins in Mixology 101, you’ll have a blast taking a class with Dad. Learn a skill to take home with the both of you!

Adopt a Plant. Find a baby plant and take it under your wing. Help Dad plant it in the yard—or somewhere else special—and it’ll take root in his memories as it grows!

We hope you’ll enjoy making these memories with Dad! If you’re looking for gifts, check out our Mustache Gift Guide for fun and unique mustache-themed gifts for dad.
