Why do you blend your drinks?

We blend--rather than juice--our super smoothies to retain the fiber and nutrients found in the skin and leaves of our organic produce. Fiber helps to stabilize the natural sugars of our fruit and vegetables, giving you sustained energy, and helps to promote better digestion.

How are your drinks preserved?

Green Mustache does not contain any added sugars or preservatives. Our super smoothies are kept fresh using High-Pressure Pascalization (HPP), which applies an immense amount of cold water pressure (instead of heat pasteurization) to inactivate bacteria, ensuring food safety and extending shelf life. Importantly, HPP reduces the level of potential pathogens while still keeping the enzymes, vitamins, and nutrients found in our organic fruits and vegetables intact.

Why does it appear that the sugar content of some of your smoothies is higher than expected?

Fruits and vegetables contain natural sugars. Since Green Mustache super smoothies are blended using whole organic produce, the natural sugars from these fruits and vegetables are present in our drinks. By blending our ingredients together, we incorporate the pulp from many of the organic produce we use, resulting in a smoothie with 12% - 20% daily value of fiber, which helps to slow down the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream.

What does it mean to be USDA Certified Organic?

UDSA-certified organic products follow strict USDA standards requiring they be produced without toxic pesticides or fertilizers, genetic engineering, ionizing radiation or sewage sludge. They must be made in facilities that are certified to meet USDA Organic guidelines and must show documentation that allows full traceability from the retailer shelves to the field where the organic ingredients were grown. It's a high bar to reach, but we are committed to the superior quality and safety of our ingredients!

What are the benefits of choosing organic foods for my family?

Because they are grown without toxic pesticides and other harmful chemicals, organic foods can dramatically reduce pesticide levels in kids' bodies. Children are uniquely vulnerable to toxic exposures since their bodies are still developing and have less capacity to metabolize toxins. For this reason, many experts agree that children are among those who benefit most from eating organic foods. There's also evidence that many organic fruits and vegetables are more nutritious (containing higher levels of antioxidants and beneficial phytonutrients) than conventionally grown produce. With more love and attention devoted to the farming of organic foods, it shouldn't be surprising to discover that organic foods also taste better! And when your child can enjoy delicious fruits and veggies because they taste great, then they will keep eating them—influencing healthy taste preferences for life. Organic is also better for our environment. With organic farming, substances such as chemicals, pesticides, drugs and hormones are less likely to be in the air we breathe, the soil we till, and the water we drink. Healthier farms, healthier planet, healthier you!

Why is organic food more expensive?

There are a few reasons organic food is more expensive, including—no toxic pesticides means more labor costs, organic fertilizer is more expensive (as opposed to the very affordable sewage sludge used by many conventional farmers - yuck), post-harvest handling costs can be higher since organic produce/products have to be processed in special facilities to avoid cross-contamination with conventional foods, organic certification takes time (for detailed record-keeping) and costs extra money for annual inspections and better living conditions and food for livestock costs more. Simply put—an investment in organic is an investment in your family's health and in our environment by reducing pollution and conserving water and soil quality for us, our children and future generations to come.

What does it mean to be Non-GMO and why is it important?

Green Mustache is "Non-GMO Project Verified", North America's only independent, third-party verification for products made according to best practices for GMO avoidance. GMO or genetically modified organisms are plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology. Virtually all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. In North America, over 80% of our food contains GMOs. One of the most common concerns about the prevalence of GMOs in our food is whether they are safe for our children and families to be eating.

Is Green Mustache vegan?

Yes, our products do not contain any animal-derived ingredients.

Should coconut be avoided by someone with a tree nut allergy?

Coconut, the seed of a drupaceous fruit, has typically not been restricted in the diets of people with tree nut allergy. However, in October of 2006, the FDA began identifying coconut as a tree nut. The available medical literature contains documentation of a small number of allergic reactions to coconut; most occurred in people who were not allergic to other tree nuts. Please ask your doctor if you have any concerns. (Source: The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, www.foodallergy.org)

Do I need to keep Green Mustache in the refrigerator?

What should I do if the "best by" date on the bottle has passed?

Our products are best when consumed before the "enjoy by" date and we do not recommend you consume your beverage past this date.
